Murano

Went to the island of Murano today. This is where they make the glass, glass blowing, etc. Originally it was on the island of Venice, however many hundreds of years ago they moved it to Murano out of fear that they would burn Venice down.

I found one of the furnaces that allows visitors and watched one craftsman make a bird in 5-10 minutes. Afterwards went to another section where they make vases, etc. That is where the pictures are from. They have moldings/casings that they can either force the molten glass into for a shape or put it in there and blow it til it takes the shape. I could stay there for hours and watch them.

Afterwards took the ferry back to San Marco (they have a direct line which is very convenient); took more pictures of the festivities. Seemed like more tourists today than yesterday. Going out to explore again tonight.
